New Year’s Renovations: 5 Easy Ways to Refresh Your Kitchen and Bath

As much as I love the holidays, it seems I’m always ready for the clean slate that comes along with the New Year…particularly when it comes to my home. Once all the ornaments, lights and reindeer are packed away, I usually feel the urge to tackle a refresh project somewhere in my house!
In the hopes that I’m not the only one who feels this way, I thought I’d celebrate January on the blog by putting together a list of some of my favorite ways to refresh your kitchen or bath. Some of these ideas are super easy, others are a little more involved. I’ve got steals, splurges and some things in between. Check out some of my favorites below and let me know your thoughts on ways to update your kitchen or bath for the New Year!
1. Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet hardware is quick and affordable way to update cabinets, vanities and furniture. I tend to think of hardware like jewelry – sometimes you want something classic, other times you want something that makes a big statement. You can’t beat the selection and price IKEA offers when it comes to hardware. Two of my favorites are the ultra-sleek and modern Lansa handles in stainless steel and the more traditional Fagleboda cup pulls. The cup pulls come in several finishes, including brass, which looks great with a variety of color palettes and mixed with other metals. Whenever I’m looking for statement hardware, my first stop is always Anthropologie. Right now, I’m crushing hard on their Prismatic Gem Knobs and Glinted Prism Knobs.
2. Linens
Whether it’s new hand towels, kitchen towels or indulgent bath towels, updating linens is probably the easiest way to make a change. It’s also a great way to freshen up an existing color palette and play with pattern or texture. I love using unique guest towels in my powder room…they make drying your hands feel a little more special! The intricate design on these Pottery Barn guest towels is a modern take on classic embroidery. For a guest or master bath, you can’t go wrong with Turkish bath towels. I mean, they have fringe…need I say more?
3. Paint
Changing up your wall color is guaranteed to give your space a new look and feel. I’m drawn to soothing neutrals and chose Sherwin Williams’ Worldly Gray for pretty much the entire first floor of my home! It’s a versatile gray that is a good mix of warm and cool. It looks great in various lights and I always get a ton of compliments on it. While white and neutrals are usually foolproof, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experiment with a little color now and then. I’m loving deep navy and emerald green these days and I’m currently plotting my next painting project!
4. New Sink
I know what you’re thinking… you consider getting a new sink a quick renovation project?! So, it might not be as quick as hanging a new guest towel, but switching out your kitchen or bathroom drop-in sink is probably easier than you might think. Sinkology has a variety of drop-in copper sink styles that fit different-sized cabinet bases. I love the copper Angelico kitchen sink because it emulates the large, deep basin of popular farmhouse style sinks, but it can easily be dropped in to existing cabinetry. 5. Lighting
Lighting is one of my favorite ways to update a space. Again, it isn’t always the easiest update, but it makes a huge statement and draws attention. I chose these Pottery Barn Rustic Glass Pendants for my kitchen – the blown glass shades give them a delicate feel, despite their large size. I also really love mixing metals. These Satellite Sconces from Schoolhouse Electric come in a variety of finishes and shades so you can customize them to fit your space.
